Our Blade Styles:

Top: Lowcountry blade style- This blade is best for those who love oysters from South Carolina’s Lowcountry, or for anyone who harvests and enjoys smaller oysters. This blade shape is only available on the Lowcountry Oyster KnifeTM.

Bottom: Our Original blade style- This style also has a pointed tip, but it quickly widens to provide the leverage you need to easily open any oyster. Because our knives are forged from steel, they won’t dimple, bend, or break like traditional oyster knives can, and because they are hand-forged, you can always file them as you wish to complement your personal shucking style. Each blade arrives from our forge with the best overall combination of safety and sharpness for most seasoned shuckers. Due to its universal opening power, this style is recommended for knives outside of the South Carolina Lowcountry and is used on our Original, Georgia, and Florida knives.

These blades can be used to carve wood, clean corners, remove household tile, or expertly handle any prying or pounding kitchen duty. You’ll find yourself using them for more than just opening oysters and beer, which is just one of the many reasons this will be your oyster knife for life!

A Different Grip Style:

Why the handle is different & why it works!

Modern oyster knife blades seem to have forgotten their roots, and you might not be familiar with an oyster knife handle like ours unless you have an eye for historic design and utility.

The upright design offers you far more control of the tool (especially with wet hands!) than the round handles of today that tend to slide or spin in your hand. The control you’ll have with our knives can be felt as soon as you place your thumb in the protective curve. But the most amazing advantage of our grip is that 100% of your prying power is used since our knives are made from one solid piece of steel, plus the bottle plate. You’ll lose none of your effort to loose handles or bending blades, and this control means you’ll have a more efficient and safe shucking experience.  It also makes for the most durable oyster knife available.

Our Bottle-opening plate Styles:

Each of our bottle-opening plates works in the same, effective way. The design allows you to open a bottle with one of two grips:

1)    The most common method is to place your thumb on the curved, thumb protector, just as you would when you are shucking oysters. You simply drop the blade beside the bottle, and as you pivot the blade up, the plate lifts the cap off the bottle and into the palm of your hand. This reminds your guests to toss the tops so they don't land on the ground.

2)    When you aren’t shucking oysters, simply apply the rounded top to the top of the cap and use the bottle-opening plate to pry the cap upward. Opening bottles is just one of the many uses for our oyster knives around the house.

When it comes to design, you have even more choices. Simply pick your favorite state outline of Georgia, South Carolina, or Florida, or with a minimum order, get your family letter or other simple outline custom cut for you.

No matter which plate you choose, they are all equally effective at removing bottle caps for a lifetime.

We want every one of our customers to enjoy oysters as much as we do. If you have any questions about our Southern-made products, please let us know by e-mailing orders@georgiaoysterknife.com. Let’s help you select an oyster knife for life!
